A day in the life of Lauren

I'm splitting this post from my last one, to make it a bit more readable :)
Here was my day:

4:10: wake up to my first alarm, confused as to why on earth something would be beeping so early. Go back to sleep.

6:30: wake up to my second alarm, and get up frantically, convinced that it's actually 7:30. Look outside, realize it's pitch black, and go back to bed.

7:05: wake up for real. Discover that going to bed at 11 actually DOES make it slightly easier to wake up. I never believed there was a connection between the time you go to bed and how hard it is to wake up, but I guess 3 extra hours of sleep help slightly.

7:25: Drink milked down coffee and eat two pieces of toast, one with liver paste and cheese, one with brunost and jam for breakfast.

7:50: Walk to school, on time for once. Feel like I'm late because it's light out.

Walk up these stairs
and down this hallway
to the first door on the left

8:05 : English class. Write a fake letter to the editor in Norwegian, everyone else did theirs in English. Luckily I was one of the only kids in the class with internet. Google translate can be a lifesaver!

9:35: Switch to History class. Don't make it to the free breakfast in time to fetch a milk, so go to the canteen and manage to score a chocolate milk from the canteen lady.

Prepare myself for a boring history class, then get sent the next episode of  Pretty Little Liars from Karoline. Makes the class go by quickly :)

10:49 : Lose the battle of saving my lunch til lunchtime, eat one piece of knekkebrød

11:15 : Lunch, eat the last three pieces of knekkebrød with liver paste

11:30 : Walk down to the store with some girls from my class

11:49 : Come into History/Philosophy class a couple minutes late

11:50: Wonder who the random guy in the back of the class is. He looks kind of like a teacher, but a bit like a student as well.

11:57: Wonder what the teacher would look like if he shaved off his beard and mustache

11:59: Take some notes

12:05 : Notice that someone has written logarithms on the desk, reminisce about math class

12:10 : Get asked to define "constitution" by the teacher. Get about three words in before getting stuck, and switch to english.

12:30 : Five minute break; check that my laptop is finished sending some files, and close it.

12:45 : Realize the sun is really bright, start getting sleepy. Put on my coat, making me sleepier

12:50: Try taking more notes while my eyes keep closing. They turn out like this:

13:00 : Wonder why the clock is going so slow. Start looking for split ends in my hair while listening to the teacher ramble on about Descartes

13:20 : Leave, Wednesdays I get out early. Walk a bit with Silvia, before getting a ride the rest of the way home with Stian.

13:35 : Eat a bit of knekkebrød with cheese

13:45 : Put on my running clothes. Wonder if a thin cotton long sleeve and tights will be warm enough. Realize I forgot to charge my Ipod. Go outside...

( I actually do have 2 legs.....)
Warm up, then run up these stairs six times:

14:30 : Try to jog home, realize that doesn't work when your legs feel like pieces of jellied spaghetti with epilepsy. Walk the rest of the way.

14:37 : Turn the music on my laptop, do a couple crunches, stretch.

Look up at the skylight, thinking it's been painted blue:

Realize that no, it's the sky that's blue.

Give up on crunches and shower. Think that I should buy more conditioner.

15:15 : Eat fish gratin, creamy noodle and fish casserole, with bacon and carrots for dinner:

15:25: Drink a cup of coffee and "read" (aka look at pictures) in the newspaper

16:01 : Consider going into the city to buy sunglasses, realize I won't make the 16:05 bus. Finish answering a question in French for a scholarship application.

16:30 : Start the long process of putting pictures from my cell phone to the computer. The steps: upload pictures one by one from my cell phone to facebook. Switch them into another album on facebook. Save them one by one back to the computer. Switch them one by one from the "downloads" folder, to where I actually want them. Then upload them again to my blog.

17:00 : Get annoyed because my phone will only upload 10 pictures

17:30: Write my previous blog post anyways.

18: 05 : Realize my cell phone is cooperating and will upload more pictures. Finish the last blog post.

Do nothing in particular

19:00: Drink coffee with Ice cream for dessert:

Not actually the vegetables; the picture is from a few days ago.

19:15 : Write this post.

19:30 : Continue writing this while watching the opening of the world cup on TV.

Be amazed yet again by all the cross country skiing on TV

And that brings me up to now. I don't usually do this little during a day, normally I get out of school at 3, and go into the city, or swimming, or to track practice, it varies.

So that was my day so far.

One more day of school, then Winter break!

  2. Hi Lauren - I thought I added a comment when I read this blog - but guess it didn't go - I'll try again. I still enjoy reading your comments - very well done! Glad to know that you are getting some opportunities to ski and that your new location is fine. I have been in North Vancouver quite a bit. Bob had a mikd stroke and is not to drive for awhile so I have been his chauffeur. He is here with me at Parksville right now. I hear that you are making plans for University - that it may be Simon Faser or U of A (my alma mater - it has a very good reputation - but is a lot bigger now than when I went!)Take care and lots of love from Grandma
